Block paving comes with a wide variety of end-user benefits:

Block paving comes with a wide variety of end-user benefits:

  • Thicknesses of up to 50mm allow for a strong and stable installation
  • Pavers are very easy to handle and equally easy to install
  • A quality of finish that catches the eye and lasts for many years
  • Requires very little maintenance apart from regular brushing
  • Pavers uplift individually for faster and more affordable repairs
  • Versatile enough to be used on curved or sloped driveway surfaces

Block paving is permeable. Planning laws state that if surface water runoff can drain into an adjacent lawn or a flowerbed, or into an operational soakaway or a drainage channel, local authority approval won’t be needed.

We will advise you on any drainage requirements during our initial visit to your property and include any modification work in our written quotation.

Block Paving | The Installation Process

Preparation is the foundation for success with all types of surfacing work and in this regard, block paving is no different. After clearing your garden of any debris, we excavate to depths of approximately 250mm to accommodate 150mm of aggregates which form the sub-base, a further 50mm of sand and the approximate 50mm thickness of the pavers. Our installers factor in a drop of 1cm, every 60cm, so that surface water drains in the correct direction.

After laying the edge restraints to create a frame for your new driveway or patio, we lay MOT Type 1 aggregates in two stages, compacting them between each stage to ensure the surface doesn’t dip or sink over time.

Once we have the sharp sand laid over the aggregates and used screeding lats to level it, the sub-base should be of a sufficient depth for the pavers to sit at ground level once laid. When laying block paving, we allow for subtle tone variations by opening multiple packs and working from them all. This is the best way to ensure an attractive spread of shade across the entire surface.

To finish installations in Basingstoke, Fleet, Hook and the surrounding areas, our installers brush kiln-dried sand between the joints and compact again until they are filled. Block paving will be able to handle foot traffic within 2 to 3 hours of us finishing an installation, but we advise that you do not park cars on your new surface, or put down heavy plant pots, for at least 48 hours.

At this stage, we can then seal the surface to provide further protection.

Our landscaping company also offers a garden and grounds maintenance service which can include the cleaning and resealing of block paving at specified intervals, or the replacement of individual units if worn or damaged.
